Turina is one of Spain's most unfairly under-recognized composers, having been overshadowed by Manuel de Falla (much as Manolo Sanlucar always seems to be in Paco de Lucia's shadow despite posessing a unique voice and being a musician of great finesse). His quartet is full of "Flamenco" tonalities and flavors, and a seldom heard treat. Paired here with Debussy's only quartet, another often overlooked gem of the musical literature, and performed with gusto by a string quartet whose reputation around the world grows year by year, this is- for those with such tastes- a musical feast.
