This is a wonderful and important book for several reasons. It is a generous documentation of the recorded work of the recently deceased singer from Granada, who was both an avid student of the traditional cante, and a tireless explorer of new ideas and fresh possibilities for his beloved art. In a career highlighted by 23 dramatically different albums, Morente worked with top collaborators from the most traditional to the most radical. This book contains transcriptions of 15 complete cantes and their guitar accompaniments, as recorded by Morente with Felix de Utrera, Nino Ricardo, Sabicas, Pepe Habichuela, Isidro Sanlucar, and Tomatito. For each piece, the cante is given in notation, and the guitar accompaniment in notation and TAB.About half of the pieces are drawn from Morente's early and very traditional recordings, the rest from his encounter with Sabicas, and the more contemporary Sacromonte and Lorca.A las Minas del Romero (Taranta), En lo Mejor de Tus Sue–os (Solea), Pago con la Vida (Siguiriya), Eso No Lo Manda la Ley (Cana), De Aquella Campana Triste (Malaguena), La Malanga (Guajira), En Oro y Marfil (Granaina), Esa Rosa (Alegrias), Amante (Fandangos de Huelva), Cuando un Hombre (Rumba), Decadencia (Fandangos), Eres Como Veleta (Bulerias), Tienes la Cara (Tangos), Tiro Tire (Colombiana), and Fragmentos: La Romeria de Yerma (Bulerias).Transcriptions by David Leiva, with a short intro and bio in Spanish and English.
